A friendly, puzzle-first way to learn chickens

RoostScan is built like a gentle puzzle: instead of pages of text, every identification is a small, rewarding interaction that teaches you to read the clues. Snap a photo, and the app annotates visible features — feather patterns, comb type, leg color, and posture — then offers a ranked shortlist of breeds. Each suggestion is accompanied by trait chips you can tap to see why the match made sense. Over time you’ll collect badges for pattern recognition, assemble a flock inventory that records eggs, productivity, and climate suitability, and explore over five hundred curated breed profiles. The library is searchable by country, feather type, egg color, temperament, and purpose so you can filter towards hardy backyard layers, show breeds, or research stock for a new coop.

The identification engine uses smart image features and a breed ontology tuned for poultry: shape, silhouette, feather texture, and landmark markers like wattles and combs. Confidence scores are shown as HUD chips — green for high, amber for possible matches, and blue for rare breeds. Offline packs let you download regional libraries, and educators can use the app to build classroom exercises where students earn combo badges for accurate identifications. RoostScan also keeps an eye on accessibility: large buttons, readable chips, and voiceover-friendly labels make it usable for all ages.
